Warner Bros. Sabbath - Vol. Sabbath 'Vol. 4' is a bit of a departure for the band. Lyrically, they are getting into deeper waters on this album, and I'm sure the excessive consumption of various chemicals had a big hand in that. The gothic themes of the first three albums are fading somewhat here, and are gradually being replaced by the real life horrors of fame and addiction. Internally, they were beginning to unravel a bit, and the songs seem to reveal an emotional ebb and flow that ranges from mournful 'Changes' to manic 'Supernaut' and back again 'Snowblind', cr. Album 1972 10 Songs. Such craziness was standard-issue for the era, and the trippy-indulgent instrumental FX, the warped time signatures of Cornucopia, and the cocaine-praising Snowblind further exposed and reflected the tenor of the times. The album title appears as Black Sabbath Vol. 4 on the vinyl labels. All tracks by Osbourne, Iommi, Butler, and Ward. This was originally supposed to be called 'Snowblind', but that name was rejected by the record company due to the song's obvious references to cocaine. Black Sabbath Vol. 4 often shortened to Volume 4 is the fourth album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1972. The album was originally to be titled Snowblind, after one of several songs referring to cocaine use, and features several Sabbath classics, such as Tomorrow's Dream, Snowblind, Supernaut and Changes. Volume 4 demonstrates Black Sabbath beginning to experiment with the heavy sound they. 4 is the point in Black Sabbath's career where the band's legendary drug consumption really starts to make itself felt. And it isn't just in the lyrics, most of which are about the blurry line between reality and illusion. 4 has all the messiness of a heavy metal Exile on Main St. and if it lacks that album's overall diversity, it does find Sabbath at their most musically varied, pushing to experiment amidst the drug-addled murk.
