One of my favorite Wax Trax! releases. This was weird even by the record label's standards, which were weird indeed. Braindead Sound Machine ("BDSM", get it?) were a highly peculiar and explosive mix of industrial noise, country twang, apocalyptic disco and sort of cinematic Tex-Mex new wave grit. Honestly, it sounds like it should be a soundtrack to an '80s cult scifi film set in small town Texas. It sounds not entirely unlike if Wall Of Voodoo got noisier, grew obsessed with drag racing and started taking downers. Only...that doesn't do it justice, obviously. This band never got the recognition it deserved. If I were a film director, I'd use a handful of these songs in a soundtrack, they're very evocative of certain feelings. Anyway, you can likely pick this up very cheaply anywhere online. I recommend it.

I saw them open up for KMFDM in 1991, the crowd wasn't that into them, almost bored, but I dug their looks, diversity of sound, and their cover of "walking after midnight".
