If you, the woman singer, are to make it credible, you must sing with great power of expression rather than force of tone. Or you could sing it however you want, it's really up to you. Imagine the situation: you have now passed through every stage of delight, disillusionment, bitterness. You have sought oblivion in nature, in dreams, in fantasies, which have led you away from the world of reality. But again and again the old torturing. Vindicatrix arrives on black-wax for his stone cold debut on Mordant Music. One of the most curiously unique records to have passed through Bleep's ears in a while, the London artist proves himself to be a master in bringing together a thousand influences and dissolving them into a spooky, textural whole. Muted classical samples swim in the murk, synth tones, broken guitars twinkle and a morbid Vindicatrix vocal intones from under the ground. Odd, weirdly affecting and beyond definition. Read More. I swear, one could just listen to the Mordant Music label and nothing else these days, the range is that vast. This is the debut album from Vindicatrix, a conspirator and sometimes collaborator of the Baron's. All throughout the breadth of this monster we are confronted by styles which are molested and then utterly decimated by their own virtues, finally being shed like so many insectoid skins.

Or was that wings being torn off a butterfly, I don't know the precise variables utilized in the making of this record; part of me does not want to. Electronics are the only constant here, with bursts of violent percussion punctuating drones that can only be termed menacing. I get the feeling Vindicatrix approach whatever audience they coax forth in the most confrontational of ways.

As with all things Mordant, there is exquisite packaging to compliment the auditory inferno being loosed. The vinyl is extremely well pressed; it is absolutely VITAL for one to listen to this record as a whole: first the minimally disturbing three part serial 'Something in the night' and then the eight track cd-r. If it's not designed to keep you awake nights trying to index the synapses of your gray matter, I'll be very very surprised.

Whoever Vindicatrix is, or are, they have confounded my ears by the very nature of the unconventional almost bastardized rendering given to the sounds which leap forth from my speakers. Mr. Maxted get the concrete billets but this artist here is the very real sound of sanity coming apart in an ever more nuanced, insidious fashion. Cannot recommend this one enough.
